Lytro lets you take pictures like never before.
Refocus a picture after it’s taken? No Way! Yes, Way!
Unlike a conventional camera that captures a single plane of light, the Lytro camera captures the entire light field, which is all the light traveling in every direction in every point in space.
The coolest thing about the camera and why its completely different from any camera you’ve ever used before, is you can refocus a picture after its taken. Focus and re-focus your photos, anytime after the fact. Below are two examples from the Lytro website, notice the front focal point has changed just by clicking on the subjects in the background. Awesome!
Truly a point and shoot camera, there is no focusing on anything, because the camera is focusing on everything! Weird, crazy and very cool! Unlike a conventional camera that captures a single plane of light, the Lytro camera captures the entire light field, which is all the light traveling in every direction in every point in space. Head spinning I know.
There are only two buttons on the camera, the power button and shutter button, a slider to zoom in and out and a USB port. The lens of the camera is also a touch screen so you can view the images immediately and you can touch to refocus your photo right on the camera’s lens.
There is no missing the shot with this camera. With instant on power and no auto-shutter, means no shutter delayand you capture the moment not the moment after.
No auto-focus, no shutter lag, no unnecessary modes, dials, or settings.
And no flash, because Lytro can handle many low light settings.
The Lytro Light Field Camera boasts an 8X optical zoom lens with a constant f/2 aperture, capturing maximum light across the entire zoom range. The 2″ x 5″ body of the camera is covered by an extruded anodized aluminum structural skin with a silicone rubber grip and weighs less than eight ounces.
The 8GB version will hold 350 pictures and comes in the color choices of graphite or electric blue at a retail price of $399. The “Red Hot” model holds 750 pictures and comes in the color choice of… wait for it… yep red and retails for $499.
